Jay McKinney

Jay McKinney is a Partner and Wealth Manager at Mooresville Wealth Management. Mr. McKinney first entered the financial services industry in January, 2014 when he became an Internal Sales Associate on MetLife’s annuity sales desk. Since that time Mr. McKinney has served as an Internal Wholesaler for annuities at both MetLife and Brighthouse Financial as well as a Sales Vice President for Barnabas Capital, where he specialized in variable and structured annuities. During his time wholesaling, Mr. McKinney successfully trained financial advisors throughout the country on advanced retirement planning concepts, building a multimillion-dollar annual annuity book of business. In 2026, Mr. McKinney transitioned from training advisors as an annuity specialist to wealth management.

Since entering the industry, Mr. McKinney has obtained FINRA series 6, 63, 65 and 7 licenses and NC Life and Health Insurance licenses. In 2023, Mr. McKinney became a Retirement Income Certified Professional, a designation that’s issued through the American College of Financial Services and specializes in all aspects of retirement income planning including: social security claiming, medicare and other healthcare cost considerations, retirement income tax and legacy planning and much more. Mr. McKinney completes annual continuing education requirements for all licenses and registration to ensure that he is armed with the latest and greatest information.

Away from the office, Mr. McKinney is involved with many things. He’s been married to his best friend since 2010 and they have three children together. Additionally, Mr. McKinney is still serving as an Engineer Officer in the North Carolina Army National Guard and holds the rank of Major. Mr. McKinney is also passionate about Scouting America. He’s an Eagle Scout and the recipient of the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award for contributions to his community since becoming and Eagle. Mr. McKinney continues to serve at the local troop and council level. Mr. McKinney also serves on the Cabarrus County Community Foundation Board.

When there’s free time, Mr. McKinney enjoys time with family, neighborhood hangouts, golf and live sporting event.
